"Arrived in Kano late afternoon from lagos. Atmosphere was
very dusty and could not see the ground approaching till we
thumped onto the tarmac. Was a rather beautiful evening with the
sun setting in the dust storm, quite funky lighting really. On
the tarmac through the dusty haze you could see the silhouettes
of a bunch of 747's undergoing 'maintenance', jet engines lying
on the ground around them on the tarmac and a couple of locals
having a 'bash' at some precision engineering. Would have loved
to take a photo of the Jumbo's in the dusty atmosphere was
really stunning but thought the better of it as would probably
have had to pay a monster bribe for violating national security
or some other bollox, usual story moment you pull out a camera.
Tranquility did not last long and reality of fighting off the
trolly hustlers kicked in as soon as entered the baggage reclaim
area. Out side the arrival lounge is far more chilled out
than Lagos or Port Harcourt and the general qualities of the
airport hustler are more refined or less aggressive how ever you
choose to look at it. The rest of Kano is truly a disaster and
not worth visiting if you can help it, though definitely recommend
the fresh orange juice at the Prince Hotel. Probably the
tastiest ever had."
