"though
it isn't the best airport on the planet, one must remember this is a
very very poor county that lost nearly everything in 1999 after their
vote for independence." (?)
What you can look forward to:
main lobby: no air-conditioning, a bar
boarding area: air-conditioning, but nothing to do

"The Dili airport is probably not your average airport, I
mean come on. It's in the world's newest country. It can be
great or horrible depending on the time. Mornings are usually
OK, the coffee shop outside is opes and there aren't too many
Timorese standing around. In the afternoons, sometimes the
coffee shop isn't open, (depending on the mood of the staff) and
there are a few more people around because no-one is crazy
enough to wake up for the early flight from Darwin! Inside the
airport, the security is.. shall we say lax... and the x-ray
machines are usually not working, so there are national police
checking luggage except, of course, if you have the luck of
possessing a diplomatic passport. When you get to the departures
lounge, there is a shop selling tais and a few souvenirs. But
now there is a duty free!!!!!!!!!Which sells alcohol, jewellery
and sometimes some electronics. Even if this airport isn't going
to win the golden pillow, I think it deserves some mention in
terms of development and effort. This isn't an airport you are
likely to be transiting through, only two airlines fly out and
to two destinations only, but if you do get the chance to visit
East Timor, take it because it might not be the best, but it
isn't like anything else you've ever seen!!"
