What to Expect

rovaniemi airport guideSanta Claus’ “official” airport, Rovaniemi Airport (code: RVN) has a small, modern terminal that handles Helsinki commuter flights as well as European routes in the busy winter season. Amenities are limited to a landside restaurant, an airside cafe, a couple souvenir shops and free WiFi. Mail a postcard from the Santa Claus Post Office for a specially stamped postmark.

Sleeping in Rovaniemi Airport

The airport closes nightly, by 12:00AM but as early as 10:30AM on certain days, so overnight stays are not possible. For uninterrupted sleep, nearby hotels offer shuttle service. See our Airport Hotels section below for more info or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips.

The airport offers an area Airside with rocking chairs where you can relax.

Take precaution even when sleeping in the rest zones.  In December 2019, a traveller at another airport reported that money and credit cards had been stolen from their bag even though the bag was right beside them.  Protect and lock your bags as you would sleeping elsewhere in public.

Baby Changing Facilities – If you are travelling with infants, changing tables are available in restrooms.

Baggage Carts – Need a hand with your luggage? Baggage carts are available free of charge at the airport.

Children’s Play Area – When you want to ensure your kids burn off all their energy before their flight, take them to the children’s play area. The area is equipped with tables and chairs for the parents as well. Location: Near Gate 6.

Food & Drinks – There are no 24 hour food options; however, a few concessions are open during flight operational hours.

Airport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport

Bus and Train

RVN airport is well connected to the public transportation system. Whether you are looking for a bus to the city centre, a ski resort, the local train station or Santa’s village, there is probably an option for you. For more information, visit the Rovaniemi Airport website.

The airport is also served by a shuttle bus offering service to the city centre with a number of stops along the way at popular hotels. At the time of this update, one-way adult fare starts at 7,00€. For routes and schedule information, visit the Airport Bus website.
