"Tenerife North...
In short; it closes. On route to Barcelona, we found ourselves
with a surpless night in Tenerife, so the airport was quickly
decided to be the most prudent choice of roof's for our naive
little heads. We even prepared- a Spanish version of Monopoly - 'Suppolly'
or something of that ilk, was purchased. (for those that are
interested, it is, in my opinion, an inferior immitation, with
realistic property values that get annoying to count). Anyways,
the stage was set, after an enjoyable afternoon galavanting around
La Laguna (a gem of a place compared to the typical Tenerifian
fare) we headed to the airport at nightfall for what we thought
would be a drink fuelled night of procrastination. The airport had
other ideas.
Halfway through our first Dorado and a couple of rolls of the
dice, we were turfed out and told it would re-open at six the
following morning.
This was no dissaster however, and made for some good banter. A
table was erected from discared Dell boxes, and cushions made from
the polystyrene inside. Monopoly was reconviened, and a bottle of
red was opened. As if from our fantasies, a pizza boy turned up to
deliver to the security, but in his broken English, and our even
worse Spanish, he informed us that his shop had shut for the
night. Gutting.
Overall, the climate was pleasent enough, the guards never
bothered us, and there are plenty of long benches to strech out
on. However, for amenities and warmth, its probably worth the hour
and a half skirmish to Tenerife South."
