REVIEWS vancouver - Vancouver ..... Pelling January, 2010 A big lack ! What a disappointement ! Nowhere you can find a foreigner newspapers, just anglophone newspapers from England, or Us of Canada.
A big lack for an international airport !
When I asked why to an employed , she told me 'Canada is an anglophone country'... An hugh disappontenement in a so nice airport !
Vancouver - YVR ..... seanmac November, 2009 Phenomenal airport, Vancouver International Airport has turned an amazing 360 degrees with the incredible accomplishment of building a new airport around the existing one without shutting down service. Parking lots are quickly accessed from the terminals (make sure you park in Domestic or International areas, it's a bit of a hike otherwise...), the layout of the airport is incredibly easy to navigate, and the interior design and architecture make it likely one of the most striking airports in the world.
As an aside, the new high speed rail line to the downtown of Vancouver, it integrates with other high speed rail lines to other areas of Greater Vancouver, is an amazing addition with the upcoming Olympics, that will be an incredible benefit to travelers for years to come.
At night, there are areas of the airport that pretty much go dormant around 10-11 until about 5 am, and it is easy to find somewhe...
Vancouver - Vancouver International Airport ..... sourdough December, 2009 The First Time I'd Ever Slept In An Airport If you are going to sleep in the airport, be sure that you go all the way down to the USA departures area. It's much, much quieter there compared to the Domestic Terminal, and much more comfy.
The Fairmont Hotel inside the airport has a deal where you can pay 10 CDN for a drop-in fee that lets you use the showers (which are private) and the sauna. Or, if you need, you can pay 5 more and use the small gym there have as well. I didn't spend too much time looked at the equipment, but at the very least, there is cardio there and light weights.
For spending an extended amount of time like I did, you can store your luggage at the CDS Baggage Storage located in the International Terminal by the Tim Hortons (lower level) or in the Domestic Terminal by the baggage carousels. I paid 5.50 per suitcase. Their fees start at 3 for small purses I belive, and end at 7 for oversized luggage like sports...
Vancouver - YVR ..... trancient May, 2009 Beautifully designed airport, lots of noise I arrived around 10p to the airport and had to fly out the next morning. The two reviews before mine encapsulate what the airport offers and where to go.
I had a terrible time sleeping for a few reasons. First they have started a lot of construction for the coming Winter Olympics in 2010. They worked well past midnight when I was there. Another problem was where I slept. There are a big batch of armless padded benches where everyone crashes near the Starbucks. I decided to as well but was woken up by snoring, bumping, and talking. Your best bet is towards the end of the USA/Int'l side where it is abandoned. Then again it was very cold down there and they started flight check-in at 4:30a. Airport staff were also quite loud conversing through the night.
But it really is a neat airport to just stroll around and discover things. Lot's of art around and indoor waterflows. It's probably one...
Vancouver - ..... moreloud January, 2009 Great night We spend the night in the Vancouver airport connecting from Kelowna to Perth, Australia. It was first time consciously making the decision to sleep in an airport and it was a great experience. Hike all the way down to the USA area at the far end of the airport and there is not another soul to be had. There is free WiFi and computers to use, benches you can move around to a better spot i.e. behind half walls and the Fairmont hotel, just steps away, offers free 24 hour baggage storage!
Word to the wise though, it's not cold in the airport...unless you're sleeping so bring a blanket or layer up.
Vancouver - ..... drvannostren January, 2008 Make sure to explore! And I work here! I work at YVR, and have seen people sleeping, and have scouted out MANY spots to take naps myself. There's free WIFI available now across the entire airport, so there's no need to go near the Fairmont Hotel if you don't want. This is however the best spot to sleep, endless rows of seats with cushions and armrests only ever 3 seats or so which gives you room to curl up and snooze. Flights end around 2am, and don't start again until 6. 24/7 Food at 7-11, Burger King and Subway. Everything else closes a bit early, but with those 3 choices, as long as you're not there daily, it's great! Very clean (most of the time) the cleaners are a bit loud but they won't go out of their way to bother you. Not too cold, or hot, so find a good spot and stretch out. There's people who sleep in the domestic side, mostly I think because they haven't explored, word to the wise GO ALL THE WAY TO THE USA END FOR...
Vancouver - Vancouver ..... lynette reed July, 2007 Good sleeping Vancouver airport Whenever I travel to Canada it always involves an early morning flight the following morning to Prince George. I always sleep at Vancouver airport and try to get there in time before the Fairmont Spa at the Fairmont Hotel closes at 9pm. From memory it is open 9am until 9pm daily. For C10 or 15 (depending on time available for use of the facilities) you can use the spa pool, hot tub, sauna and the showers. A great way to relax after a long haul flights from NZ. Then on to one of the eateries and then to settle down on seats for a relaxing sleep before getting up early for the morning flight. I also do the same when returning from Prince George and before flying to Alaska and then on the return from Alaska before my flight back to NZ the following morning. You have all the facilities you need and there is no rush having to get to the airport in the early morning from the city.
Vancouver - YVR ..... cmwish August, 2003 These are the good old days In 2003 I planned to take my children to Disneyland. Days before our departure there was some uncertainty over Air Canada flights and we were advised to arrive VERY early. We arrived the night before as we had an early flight. By the time we arrived at YVR Air Canada was back on track. We had just traveled from Vancouver Island and were too tired to go back downtown to find a hotel room, there were no vacancies nearby. We saw plenty of people sleeping at the airport. So many there were no seats available so we made ourselves comfortable as we could under Bill Reid's Spirit of Haida Gwaii sculpture at the International Departures. All was peaceful, we were safe but I couldn't shake the guilt of making my children, 11 and 9 at the time, sleep in public.
Years later my 16 year old son was stranded in Richmond after a day of skateboarding. He and his buddy headed for the airport and slept. ...
Vancouver - ..... gregoz January, 2007 A comfortable Airport We arrived by Bus from the USA about 11:00pm and we were flying out the next morning 8:00am. Four of us - two adults and 17 and 14 year old.
Plenty of seats to stretch out on near the Hotel entrance. No problems with security. Hard to sleep late in the morning as people started checking in at 5:00am
Overall good experience.
Vancouver - ..... Laura P. August, 2003 as lovely as an airport can be as good as an airport gets (though I have not yet been to Changi!). beautiful Pacific Northwest art. friendly employees. the walk between the international and domestic gates is really really long and the departure tax kind of sucks, but the airport represents the incredible city of Vancouver well!
