REVIEWS Christchurch - Police Station ..... web-administrator January, 2009 Sleeping in a police station "I haven't got any airports, but a few years ago I arrived in central Christchurch in New Zealand on a bus in the middle of the night. I was pretty reluctant to sleep in the local parks for fear of getting mugged (I hadn't organized a hotel to go to beforehand), so I went to the main police station a short way away to seek their advice, hoping to get a cell for the night. They were very helpful and instead suggested that I sleep under the stairs in the public foyer area. Only thing was, they said, that I had to get out by 7a.m. in the morning before their bosses started arriving for work as "this is not a hotel". I rolled out my sleeping bag and had a great night's sleep in total safety. Next morning at 6.30 a.m. one of the police officers woke me up with a cup of coffee, and let me use their bathroom. The place was warm, quiet, clean, and totally safe. The only thing wrong was that the ...
Cardiff - Police Station ..... web-administrator January, 2009 Sleeping in a Police Station (Contributed by Mike Nicolella)
"The people are friendly and the town is nice for a day's visit, but there aren't many sleeping accommodations. With no explanation, the last train back to London failed to come, then the station was closed. It doesn't matter, because the station only had those seats that are on hinges so no one can sleep on them. A nearby park was well-lit and seemed safe (we didn't have any money anyway) but the fog came in and the temperature dropped 25 degrees (F) so we couldn't sleep there. We went to a dance club/pub and I started making out with a cute Spanish girl, but her friend wouldn't let us sleep at their house, I think because my friend wasn't interested in her. At 11 when the pubs closed, the streets filled with brawling people coming out of every other doorway in sight, and cop cars showed up on every corner and began making arrests. A cop told us that the...
Blackpool - Police Station ..... web-administrator January, 2009 Sleeping at a police station (Contributed by ?)
"During my annual pilgrimage to England I did the proper thing and went to bed early the night prior to my departure back to Toronto from Manchester. One important reason for getting up on time was that I was in Blackpool at the time and the first train (and the only train that would get me to the airport on time) departed at 6:10am. I had purchased one of those cheapo digital watches at a flea market and was depending on it to keep me abreast of the time. I woke up frequently through the night to check the time and at one moment of panic, I looked to see the time of 6:15 appear !!!! I did my best to keep composed and collected my wares and thought to myself "geez, it's pretty dark out for 6 in the morning....oh well, best get going. Out into the rainy street I wandered, passing 6 well consumed teenagers on the way. I thought they must have been at a hell of an all-ni...
Africa - Police Station ..... web-administrator January, 2009 Sleeping in Police Stations between Cape Town and Nairobi when I was hiking from Cape Town to Nairobi, it was a good idea to ask at police station every night for accommodation. It is cheap with showers and police stuff is more or less friendly. I dont know, how does it works anywhere else, but Africa (especially Zimbabwe) is a good place to practice this.
