BEIRUT, Lebanon

"You'd almost be fooled into thinking half of Beirut isn't still a mess of blasted buildings when you enter this rather small but recently renovated airport." (Sean Rorison)

What you can look forward to:

WTF is this?

  • dusty food
  • noisy
  • filthy bathrooms
  • bring insect repellent
  • seats without armrests

"You'd almost be fooled into thinking half of Beirut isn't still a mess of blasted buildings when you enter this rather small but recently renovated airport. Security is tight, as in all of Lebanon, and there aren't many places to hide. The Lebanese soldiers are easy going, though, and if you can explain your plight to them somehow they won't really mind if you're crashing in some corner of the airport. But there aren't any seats or benches in the arrivals section, and only a few hard benches on the departures level. Even worse is that to get into town you'll be screwed bigtime by the taxi drivers outside who have all agreed to rip off anyone by charging 25USD for the 10-minute ride into town, which is probably how much your hotel will cost for the night. And, surprise of surprises, people will leave you alone if say no twice. Not comfortable, but doable if you're not picky."
