REVIEWS Madrid - MAD ..... amanda0124 February, 2010 Awful sleeping conditions Well lets see. My night began trying to find somewhere to sleepharder than you might think! All of the gate seats were extremely uncomfortable; 100 plastic. AND they had armrests in between all of them which made it impossible to lay down on them. The only comfortable sleeping spot we could find was next to a breakfast place. They had cushioned benchesbut only enough for about 3-4 people (too bad there were 6 of us). There were almost no carpeted areasthe only options were marble floors. Besides the uncomfortable sleeping conditions, every 15 minutes or so there would be very loud obnoxious announcementsmost of which stated the obvious. There was even one that said that the intercom wouldnt be used to make announcements!! It was absurd.
Madrid - Barajas ..... cheapsleeps May, 2010 Let me Sleep! I found a great spot to sleep just outside of the Chapel near check in and security. Outside of the actual chapel doors there are benches that are deep enough and long enough for you to sleep on, granted they are marble, which is not comfortable. But I'm 5'2 and there was definitely enough room curl up and sleep. It is also fairly dark in this alcove, which is nice.
Sadly this story is not all good. Around 2AM an obviously homeless man came and curled up on the bench across from me. This would not have been a problem but he kept getting up and moving around and staring at me. I assumed I was in his sleeping spot and he was angry, but I refused to move and he finally laid back down.
I went back to sleep evenutally and at 5:30 some Airport worker woke me and everyone around me up! I don't know what he said other than 'Ola, Buenos Dias' but I have slept at many airports and have nev...
Madrid - Madrid-Barajas ..... sparite April, 2010 Great - if not counting the loud anouncements All in all I can say all the best about this airport. It's close to the city and easy to reach by metro (but take note that you have to pay an extra 1 euro for the ticket when driving in the airport territory). Also it's warm and we found a quiet place at the very end of Terminal 1. However, the main problem were the loud announcements all over the night. Apart from that, it was very peaceful and comfortable.
Madrid-Barajas - T4 ..... carl3748 February, 2010 Not bad night at the aero. We were flying out at 6:45 am to Barcelona, and because of bus and metro timing, we had to spend the night at the airport. It wasn't bad. There were about 10 of us flying to Barcelona, and about 6 flying to Lisbon out of the same terminal, and aside from us, there were a few bums near the vueling check-in area. Though it was empty, we were still able to get through security at about 1am. We had been traveling for about 2 hours by that point (buses, metros, walking) so we got to an area of T4, and all threw our stuff on the floor, and proceeded to have one of the most uncomfortable experiences. The airport is beautiful, very clean, but very cold if you don't have a blanket. Some of my friends got kicked out of an area that had cushioned seating. The benches are pretty horrible for spending the night. if you are able to find benches without armrests, snatch them up because it's hard to sle...
Madrid - ..... hoova June, 2009 Good and Bad arrived early in the morning from cairo and had to wait 8 hours for connecting flight to lima. there were a couple of nice benches to sleep on however these were all taken. we eventually found a very hard bench in a closed cafe and managed to get about 1 hours sleep.
If your staying overnight, bring snacks! i think there may have been 1 cafe open, but the food looked very unappetizing, everything else was closed until about 6 am. Once everything was open, it was all horribly expensive, but it tasted good.
Cleaning staff were helpful in directing us about the terminal. Money exchange service was friendly too.
Once everything is all open, it is a nice airport to wonder around, if a bit pricy. But overnight, not the easiet place to find good sleeping.
Madrid - Barajas ..... frijol84 August, 2009 Todo Bien en Barajas I spent one night in the arrivals section of Terminal 1. I found a quite corner on the hard marble floors and was soon joined by a few other people sleeping in the airport waiting for connecting flights the next morning. I had read this site and was afraid that the restrooms might close overnight. But I found that this was not the case. SOME restrooms are closed from 10pm to 5 or 6am, but there are always some restrooms open. I knew I would be sleeping in the airport so I brought a blanket and a coat to put between be and the cold marble floor. I found people sleeping upstairs near check-in, but would advise against this as it is quite loud and there was always a lot of traffic, plus annoying announcements over the loudspeaker. I found absolutely NO benches to sleep on (except in the boarding area). So I staked out a bit of floor on the Planta 0 arrivals section of terminal 1. There were...
madrid - barajas old terminal ..... gvollin October, 2008 better to avoid old, sounds not very clean, signs very confusing, fairly noisy at times, but easy to reach by tube
madrid - 4 ..... sasiren August, 2009 Plan to bypass this place in the future It was very hard to sleep in this place. I was in Terminal 4 and the seats had armrests. I found a bench at a restaurant and shared it with two strangers. One of them had the crustiest looking feet I have ever seen. I had to laugh.
Another thing u should be aware of is when u leave ur stuff in Left Luggage, the male staff person said u can open and close at will.
The female stated u must pay to re close the locker but to reopen is free!
Also the Iberia staff is very rough with luggage and at 8pm I had to go into the city center, buy a new suitcase and then come back to the airport. It was getting very late. I was apprehensive about taking the Metro at nite, but it was very safe (many others around).
Airport staff are not helpful either. I had to call collect to a USA insurance company to report unusable luggage and no one would let me use the phone. I finally found someone w...
madrid - madrid ..... euro2009 June, 2009 decent for a couple hours sleep spent the night in madrid airport after a late arrival..waiting for the metro to open up at 6-7am in the am. huge airport, many terminals and areas to hole up for the night. was unsure about security in some areas that seemed far away from everytihng else but i kept my bag close and never had a problem. not a lot of padded benches but if you have a blanket or an airline pillow, it is easy to find a quiet, less bright area to lay down on the ground and catch some shut eye. temperature was decent and announcements/cleaners were not overly loud or bothersome. i watched a movie on a handheld player then fell asleep for about 4 hours or so. overall not a bad place to stay if you are in a pinch.
Madrid - Terminal 1 ..... omg012 April, 2009 Madrid Barajas T1 - Grab the cushioned seat at the cafeteria It's funny I encountered this site while searching for info on the Barcelona Airport, but I think it's a fantastic site, esp. for young frequent travelers or for those who are on a travelling quest and continue to spend time at airports. I mean, we all have experience of taking two or more flights in a row, yet the schedule just doesn't seem to work perfectly.
My experience sleeping at Barajas was, unfortunately, due to a weird travelling schedule due to a very unhelpful traveling partner. The person was visiting me from a different country and gave me a specific location to visit - only about 10 days before arrival. Hence, the expensive tickets for transportation and accomodation and of course a pretty horrible schedule that HAD to rely on transportation schedules.
So I arrived at Barajas at a quarter or perhaps half past midnight, which was quite early considering that my visit...
