This was a wonderful airport because not a soul was there. I was checked in by one gentleman who promptly led me to the plane and tore my ticket the man who assisted him was loading luggage and I began to realise that the entire austin airport staff consisted of 4 people it was a tuesday so maybe not that busy. Well the plan was called off as we taxied out some crazy electrical gig. I was flying standby or some crazy option that did not make a free hotel available so I was stuck in the airport friendly staff let me use the VIP room and even woke me up in the morning."

"I lived in Austin for a few years. Just waiting for a flight in the airport was terrible. There are constant inane announcements at insanely high volumes warning you in Spanish and English not to leave your bags unattended. Four back to back messages are played: male, English; female, Spanish; female, English; male, Spanish. They play 24/7 every six minutes. Plus, there are TV's in every public area of the airport playing local news, and they are also very loud and can not be turned off (the controls are disabled). That repeats every 8 minutes. It is audible hell. But the relatively new airport is clean and safe."
