Tampa Airport

Lasting Impressions....

"The ticket agent was like: 'Hey you are the one with the Spongebob Pajama pants on! A t.v. reporter came through. You were on the news earlier! They were going to interview you but did not want to wake you.'" (Matthew)

Good times

(Contributed by Matthew) "Basically I was coming back from Clearwater after a weekend of drumcorps auditions. I was extremely exhausted and sore (if those of you are aware of the activity!) I was not really aware that a Noreaster had smacked the northeast until I arrived at the airport. I was flying US Airways and what everything boiled down to was...NO FLIGHTS. yeah! I needed to be back at school (SUNY Purchase - 40 min. north of NYC) for Monday. Well, US Airways, American, and Continental all cancelled flights to LGA, JFK, and EWR. What surprised me was that Southwest and Jet Blue were still flying to those locations after 5pm. Well I couldn't do anything until the next morning. After being at a drumcorps camp I already had my sleeping bag and pillow. What a coincidence! I set up camp right in front of the US Airways counter and crashed at about 1 am or so. I wrote in big letters on a piece of paper:

To Whomever:
Please wake me before 9am.
Thanks :)

I remember subconsciously hearing some guy say early in the morning: "Why didn't he just set an alarm clock"?

I woke up many times through out the night but overall it was not bad. I eventually crawled out of my bag around 5:30 am and went to the counter to see if I could get an earlier flight than what they gave me previously. The ticket agent was like:

"Hey you are the one with the Spongebob Pajama pants on! A t.v. reporter came through. You were on the news earlier! They were going to interview you but did not want to wake you."

I thought that was pretty cool. I wouldn't have minded if they woke me to ask a few questions. "

Not a bad place, but not great either

"I've slept a night in Tampa Int'l Airport, in August 2000, and it beats spending 200 US for a room in the airport Marriott, which often fills up. The landside stays open 24 hours, and the terminals are usually open too, but there's no need to possibly get stuck out there. The level connecting to the airside, 3 i think, is the best level to sleep on - it's pretty dark by the Marriott , dark enough to sleep, and it's away from the exit, so if any riffraff were to come into the port, they'd be spotted before they got to you. You almost have to sleep on the floor - most of the seating has armrests - but you can fall asleep sitting up in one of the seats - they're unbelievably comfortable. All in all, don't bother paying a fortune at the Marriott, nor cabbing out to a fleabag hotel. Just stay put. "

Um, you may want to rethink sleeping in this place

so, just how bad is this airport?
